It was by joining ESAIP in the second year that my personal commitment within the institution began.
My project “The Purists” is a concrete implementation of an idea we had with students in ING 2 and ING 4 aimed at forming a music band.
After several discussions, it was in January 2023 that we decided to name the music band “The Purists”
in reference to the style we wanted to adopt. It is a return to the 80s – 90s when the band Genesis, led by Phil Collins, was in full swing with its original creations.
My mission was to coordinate the group, manage its musical repertoire and schedule.
Since January 25, 2023, every Thursday, from 6 PM to midnight, the music group rehearsed in the coworking space.
I was able to prepare interpretations of the music that inspires me day by day: the music of the 80s.
At the request of the director in 2023, we were able to prepare an end-of-year concert.
Better than words, here is a short retrospective of these various missions during the 2023-2024 period.
After returning from my Erasmus stay in Finland, I changed campuses and now I’m in Angers. Here, I was able to form a new music group that shares all my musical values, from Elton John to Supertramp.
The new academic year started very well with an open stage concert at the V&B Wine Bar in Angers and other events in the pipeline! What more could I ask for?
I am also looking for musicians in Angers to increase the size of the music group.
So, anyone interested, please contact me to share this vast domain that is music!
Skills Analysis & Reflection
On a collective level, our objectives were first to collaborate and coordinate so that our instruments in concert formed a homogeneous and audible ensemble. It was also an increased time management effort to prepare each instrumental part by artist so that at the beginning of each rehearsal, everyone only had to integrate their instrumental part to form a complete interpretation.
On an individual level, it was mainly a leadership objective that emerged throughout this project, but also a more personal goal of realizing my dream: founding a music group and organizing concerts.
It was also about managing conflicts with disagreements among some members of our music group. I had to make choices, regretted later, but as the saying goes, “It’s part of the learning process”! In terms of skills and qualities developed, it was in the field of marketing and visual promotion that I was able to progress the most. Being naturally discreet, it was thanks to my right-hand people that I was able to develop a certain confidence to be able to publish our musical interpretations. In terms of values, this project embraced the Lassallian values of ESAIP based on sharing, group cohesion, and the discovery of unknown musical fields.
